Pleased to finally announce dates for the 2026 oral history workshop series!

This series is hosted by the Gary Public Library - Carter Woodson Branch, 501 S. Lake St, in Gary’s Miller community.
We will meet on Tuesdays, from September 8 to the 29th, from 5p-5:45p. I will be onsite by 4:45p, come early if you’d like.
We must end promptly at 5:45p, so each meeting will move fast and be focused on instruction, not discussion. But I’m happy to have discussion afterwards at Miller Bean Ice Cream. Buy me a cone and we can discuss until they close at 9p.
This series is sponsored by NO ONE because the usual sponsors made promises unkept.
WORKSHOP SCHEDULE:
SEPT 8 - Preparing oral history projects and interviews. I will give best practices for developing ideas, finding respondents, drafting questions, and technological considerations.
SEPT 15 - I will share best practices for conducting lively, engaging, and considerate interviews.
SEPT 22 - We will focus on what to do after the interview, from saving the audio file to continuing engagement with respondents to best practices for preserving and archiving your work.
SEPT 29 - You’ll just have to come out and see what happens.
Join me for one, two, three, or all four meetings. Previous attendees most welcome! Questions? Email: samuelalove219@gmail.com.
